Santa Muerte is the deity of Mexico.
Before the Colonial Rule of Spain, Maya, Aztec, and other civilizations were developed. The belief of Santa Muerte is born when the folk belief existed in its cultural area and the Catholic belief brought by Spanish.
A long ago, Santa Muerte was generally a deity of faith instead of those with a wounded shine, who cant pray to our Lady and Jesus Christ etc. but recently it seems to be a god, who have had no wishes.
